Our Tips...

Welcome to Jean-Leigh Photography! We are so excited to capture your memories through our lens and help you create images that you will treasure for a lifetime. When it comes to photography sessions, what you wear is just as important as the location, the lighting and the poses. We want you to look and feel your best, so we have put together some tips and tricks to help you choose the right outfits for your session.

First of all, let's talk about hair and makeup. While you don't have to hire a professional, a little bit of effort can go a long way in making you look and feel your best. Take some time to style your hair and do your makeup, so you look refreshed and camera-ready. A simple touch-up or a bold lip color can add some extra charm to your images. But hey, if you don't feel comfortable handling this on your own, we never say no to professional hair and makeup. But try and ask for a look that still looks like you!

Next, let's talk about colors. When it comes to photography sessions, it's best to coordinate your outfits by choosing a color palette. Instead of everyone wearing a very different color, try to stick to a similar scheme, such as earth tones or pastels. This will help create a harmonious look and make the images look cohesive. Avoid wearing busy patterns or logos, as they can be distracting and take away from the focus on your images. This does not mean to match your colors exactly, this can be overpowering and dated.

Some Myths:

Black will make me look thin, while this may be somewhat true, very dark colors can be heavy in photographs or make even the brightest pictures look more moody. If that's the look we are going for great! But if you are wanting lighter pictures, aim for a lighter color!

I should match the background: I Prefer when my clients where something complementary or contrasting from the background as It help you stand out!

Wearing white: while wearing white can be a classy look, sometimes in harsh lighting situations or shadowed lighting white can reflect back green, blue, or purple tones, this can be avoided by shooting in the best light and picking a photographer than can handle this.

The Photographer and Background are more important than the clothes: This is a huge false and one of the biggest tips I can give you. The overall the color of your clothes depict the mood of the photos! I know this is crazy but it is so true, I have seen outfits make or break the session! Also keep in mind that your outfits should match the theme and vibe of the location. Don't go High class fancy dresses and suits if we are at the farm, and don't go too casaul if we are out on the town, it sends mixed messages in the photos.

When it comes to comfort, we want you to feel confident and relaxed. Choose outfits that you are comfortable wearing, as this will help you feel confident and at ease during the session. If it's cold outside, don't hesitate to add layers, such as jackets or scarves, to keep you warm. This will also add some texture and depth to your images. Don't wear oversized clothing to "hide" your body as this will come across as frumpy and not show your shape. Instead wear something well fitted with a flattering cut. Essentially your outfits should make you feel good both in comfort and in looks!

Bonus Outfit Tips: Movement always looks great in photos consider wearing a flowy dress. Add some accessories for you and or your family members like a stylish hat, belt, or nice jewelry. Avoid Heavy Patterns! if one person is wearing a pattern try and have the others wear something more plain.

Think about the Prints:

Alot of times I ask clients what type of colors they have in their home. Bringing some of these colors in, either with wardrobe or backdrop, can really make the prints fit beautifully in your home and with your other decor!

Finally, we want to remind you to be mindful of the little things. Avoid wearing hair ties on your wrist or putting bulky things in your pockets, as they can be distracting and take away from the overall look of the image. Consider swapping your apple watch for a nice bracelet or older style watch as these help make images more timeless.

We hope these tips and tricks will help you choose the perfect outfits for your session. We can't wait to capture your memories and help you create images that you will treasure for years to come.
