Jenna & Sully’s First Look Wedding | New Albany Ohio Wedding Venues

Jenna and Sully’s first look wedding at The Estate at New Albany was romantic, timeless, and full of so much emotion. On a golden October day just outside Columbus, they started their wedding with a quiet moment together, and it set the tone for everything that followed.

Should You Do a First Look?

If you’re on the fence about a first look, you’re not alone. It’s one of the questions we get asked most. Seeing each other for the first time at the end of the aisle is a beautiful tradition, but here’s why so many of our couples choose a first look instead:

A private moment, just for you two. Before the guests, the timeline, and the excitement of the day, you get a few quiet minutes together.

It calms your nerves. Most couples tell us they felt so much more relaxed once they’d seen each other.

Time for private vows. A first look naturally creates space to read letters or exchange private vows.

More photos before the ceremony. Getting portraits done early means you can actually enjoy your cocktail hour.

The best light. Especially in the fall, when the sun sets early, a first look lets you catch the most beautiful light of the day.

Fresh hair and makeup. Your portraits happen when everything looks its absolute best.

It does mean getting ready a little earlier, and if the aisle reveal is the moment you’ve always dreamed of, that’s beautiful too. But for couples who want more time together, a first look wedding day is hard to beat.

A First Look and Private Vows Under the Pergola

Under the white pergola, surrounded by evergreens and golden afternoon light, Sully turned around and saw Jenna for the first time. Then they read their private vows, letters written just for each other, and Jenna was in tears before she even finished the first line. It was quiet, emotional, and completely theirs. Private vows like these are one of our favorite reasons to plan a first look wedding, because the words get to stay between the two of you.

Portraits Around The Estate

The Estate’s tall windows and fall foliage made for stunning portraits all afternoon. Jenna’s pearl-covered gown glowed in the window light, and outside, the wedding party in deep green and soft gray looked incredible against the autumn trees. When it was time for the ceremony, her dad walked her down a path lined with fall color and golden light.

A Reception That Never Slowed Down

The Great Hall was glowing with greenery, candlelight, and soft draped fabric, but once the dancing started, this party took on a life of its own. Jenna changed into a short lace dress with lace gloves, the heart sunglasses came out, guests rocked custom Carlsons hats, and someone even showed up in a disco ball helmet. It was one of the most fun dance floors we’ve photographed all year.
